Avoiding triggers

Factors that trigger migraines vary from person to person. Identifying triggers may be complicated by the fact that it often takes a combination of triggers to set off a migraine.

For some people, migraines may be triggered by certain foods, such as chocolate or aged cheeses, or red wine. In others, stress or too little or too much sleep can cause migraines. Changes in the weather can also trigger migraines in some people.

By identifying the factors that trigger your migraine attacks you can work out what lifestyle changes you can make to help cut down on the number of migraines you experience.

A headache diary can be very useful in determining what triggers your migraines and how your effective your current treatment is.
